In Parashat Sh'lach, God instructs Moses to send leaders to explore Canaan. The explorers report the land is fruitful but fear its strong inhabitants. Caleb encourages confidence, but the community, overwhelmed by fear, wishes to return to Egypt. Moses pleads with God for mercy, and while God forgives the people, He decrees that only Caleb and Joshua will enter the Promised Land, with the others wandering in the wilderness for 40 years. God gives commandments for offerings and reminds the Israelites of their duty to treat strangers equally. A man who violates the Sabbath is stoned, and God instructs the Israelites to wear fringes on their garments to remember His commandments.
